STUDENT TESTIMONIAL

"I appreciate Christine's blend of teaching animal habits, anatomy, and environment so participants are knowledgeable and prepared for each sketching lesson. I've gained investigation skills for nature observation, and I'm a better artist because of Christine's courses. And she's so encouraging- no pressure and all fun!

About Your Instructor

I have broad experience working with fishes in both freshwater and marine environments that serve to inform my teaching on the subject.

In college, my undergraduate degree was focused on marine biology with internships at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Marine Mammal Center followed by jobs with Moss Landing Marine Labs and as a marine biology teacher at both high schools and colleges.

I also enjoy studying and exploring freshwater fish habitats; having volunteered with stream conservation organizations and worked as a field biologist studying endangered trout in Idaho.

I’ve worked as a biological illustrator on both freshwater and marine biology interpretive projects and taught many workshops in the field for folks of all ages.

I hold both PADI and NAUI dive certifications and have been lucky to explore many dive sites from the coral reefs of the Caribbean and the Celebes Sea to the kelp forests of central California. I’ve dove with hammerhead sharks in the Galapagos Islands and observed cleaner wrasses grooming giant groupers on coral reefs.

I love sharing my knowledge of fishes and inspiring folks to gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for their biology and habitats though a sketching practice.
