"As science teachers, we serve our students best when we give them multiple pathways for learning. Christine's integration of art and science is brilliant and very effective. Students learn aspects of anatomy, taxonomy, evolution, ecological relationships, and conservation concerns from a professional biologist while engaging in the hands-on, visual, and kinesthetic activity of scientific illustration. Students enjoy Christine's engaging personality and are inspired by her infectious enthusiasm. Even students (and teachers like me) who start out "drawing-phobic" are reassured by Christine's emphasis on process more than product, and our finished products end up being stronger than we ever thought possible, thanks to her helpful art tips that guide us along the way!"

"Christine is an encouraging and energetic teacher who makes me want to draw more. Her classes include lots of references to draw from and she covers many different ways to tackle the subject. She explains the skeleton before we start drawing which really helps to make the animals feel realistic. This course is exciting because it means a live event to really look forward to every month. Christine feels like she steps off my screen and brings the wild to my door"

"Milana started sketching with Christine Elder at 7, she is now 9, and grew so much as an artist. For homeschoolers, this is tremendous opportunity to combine biology, ecology, and art in one lesson. It's amazing to watch how a child is captivated by Christine's conversational teaching style, and doesn't want to miss a minute of it.”

I’ve been drawing and painting nature all my life and love sharing the joy I experience when I’m in the field with students.

As a former classroom teacher, I know how to lead students in a logical, step by step progression, giving them the knowledge to proceed with skill and confidence.

My advanced degrees in both biology and scientific illustration inform my work and teaching style.

I travel regularly, sketching the flora and fauna I encounter and teaching workshops to both adults and youth in such diverse places as Mexico, Honduras, Jamaica, and the United States.

I make my home in central Oregon, on the eastern slope of the volcanic Cascades mountain range, where the pine forests meet the sage steppe.

When not teaching, I enjoy hiking, bird watching and horseback riding.

"I took your manatee class and it was my first online sketching class. You explained everything so vividly and made it rather easy for a newbie. I can’t wait to do more sketches and painting through your videos. Thank you so much!"

- Pam Brown, online student

"I just started sketching in the past year. So far, I have sketched about 15 different creatures from Christine’s classes. I looked at other YouTube offerings but kept coming back to Christine’s classes. I enjoy her ability to teach and share her knowledge and experiences in a relaxed atmosphere and with no pressure. I love that she’s upfront with the loose, quick method of field sketching and the keys to starting sketching."
