Wild Turkey Workshop and Pheasant Family
All About Wild Turkeys and the Pheasant Family
This workshop honors the bird species that is responsible for the Thanksgiving dinner as we know it!
The North American Wild Turkey is a prized game bird and was a table delicacy centuries before the Pilgrims had their first holiday in the New World.
In our workshop, I’ll share interesting facts about Wild Turkey and then I’ll lead you through a step-by-step demonstration to create a beautiful drawing of this iconic bird.
Suggested Materials: Sketching pencils, paper, and handouts below. I demonstrate with colored pencils and also oil pastels so you might want to have those as well if you'd like to follow along.
>Please download the handouts then watch the videos.
Below you'll find two videos. The first is an introductory presentation on the family to which turkeys belong (The Pheasantidae) and the second are the drawing demonstrations in colored pencil and oil pastels.
DOWNLOAD THE REFERENCE PHOTO PDFs BELOW
The first 'cheat sheet' is the handout for the drawing demonstration and the other handouts are bonus reference photos of turkeys in different poses. Enjoy!
